God says He does not live in houses made with human hands no matter how beautiful they look. Rather, our body is ‘the temple of the Lord’
1 Corinthians 6:19
Jesus says “Behold I stand at the door and knock: if any man hears My voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him and he with Me” Rev 3:20
Sup with him means dine with him.
What does it mean to open the door of one’s heart for Jesus to come in?
i. Willingly allowing Him access to your inner most part, your heart.
ii. Surrendering your life to Him.
iii. Inviting Him into your life
iv. When he comes to your heart He wipes away your sins by his righteous blood
v. He gives you His Spirit to abide with you forever John 14:16
vi. The Holy Ghost empowers us to be victorious Christians
Acts 1:8 & 2:4
vii. When He lives in us, we radiate his light because He is the light of the world and he calls the Christian
viii. You are led by the Holy Ghost. John 14
What will Christ do in the Christian?
i. Cleanses us by His blood and deletes our sins
ii. He gives us righteousness 2 Corinthians 5:21
iii. Gives us the Holy Ghost as our teacher, comforter, reminder, counselor etc.
iv. Gives us His power to do what we couldn’t naturally do e.g. drop our appetite for sin
v. Jesus is the light of the world so we also become light of the world Matt 5:14
vi. Gives us the gift of faith
vii. Gives us new appetite to focus on things above i.e. things that have eternal value as opposed to material and carnal- mindedness.
So does God inhabit His temple? I mean your body as the temple of the Lord?
May I say that by my experience as a servant of God and bound with covenant, it is possible for someone to go to church for years without having the Godhead inhabiting His temple. Yes!
Signs that your body is not being inhabited and ruled by the Godhead;
i. Struggling to stop sinning though hearing the Word
ii. Enjoying sin
iii. Bitterness and unforgiveness
iv. Material and carnal-orientation. Placing material things above spiritual things
v. Not exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit Gal 5:22
vi. Sexual immorality
What should I do now?
Respond today to the knocking of Christ (Revelation 3:20) by inviting Him to come and dwell in you and dine with you and you with him. And forgive your sins and give you the gift of the Holy Ghost. This is what changes and empowers the Christian.
